Roughlock Falls and The Devil’s Bathtub

I was up in South Dakota a couple of weeks ago and decided to get some hikes in. The first of the trails we took was the Roughlock Falls Trail out in Spearfish. The Roughlock Falls Trail is an easy 2.1 mile trail that leads up to the beautiful Roughlock Falls. The trail is easy to follow, and not very steep making it a great option for a hike with the family. My biggest complaint about the trail would be the smell. Every time I have been there a portion of the trail has smelled like stale animal deposits. If you are interested in hiking this trail you can find maps and other helpful info at AllTrails.

Another one of the trails we hiked was the Devil’s Bathtub trail. Devil’s Bathtub is a moderately challenging 1.6 mile trail that is also located in Spearfish. The trail starts at a pullout off the road, and there are no big indicators that you are at the right place until you hit the trailhead, a little ways ahead. When you first start hiking it is fairly easy, and most of the challenge is in the many water crossings on the trail. It follows the stream up through a beautiful forest, and some epic hills, until you finally reach the infamous bathtub. The Devil’s Bathtub is a natural waterslide, carved into the rock by the running water. I was hesitant to slide down, due to my dislike for cold water, but I told my brother that if he did it I would. After he completed his slide, and came out of the water shivering like crazy, I began my trudge to the dreaded slide. Stepping down into the hollow I was shocked by the freezing cold water, but, despite my better judgement, down I slid. It was awesome. Even though it was cold, it was worth it. I even went down again. I would highly recommend going to Devil’s Bathtub on your next trip to South Dakota. I would also recommend packing a change of clothes. (A necessity I happened to overlook.) If you are looking into hiking this trail more info can be found here.

I will be adding a few more trail reviews in the upcoming weeks. If you’ve been to any of these trails feel free to share your opinion in the comments, and be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss the upcoming posts.

Verse Of the Week 9/20/22

I love to plan ahead, and I always want to be the one that’s in the know. When something turns out different than I had planned it drives me crazy. Proverbs 19:21 is an excellent reminder that God is in control. Even when our plans seem to have failed, God is working everything for His glory. Next time something goes different than we’ve planned, remember God is in control and He knows what is best.

If Joe Biden Were To Give the Gettysburg Address

Four years and seven years ago, our ancestors on this continent created a new nation dedicated to the proposition that they were conceived free and created equal for all men.

We are now waging a great civil war and testing whether this or that conceived and committed nation can last a long time. We are on the great battlefield of this war. We have come to dedicate a part of this sector as a final refuge for those who have sacrificed their lives here so that these people can live. It is perfectly appropriate and appropriate for us to do this.

But in a broader sense, we cannot offer this land, we cannot consecrate it, we cannot be sanctified. The brave, living and dead people who fought here dedicated themselves to making them much more distracted than our poor power. The world will write very little and will not remember what we are saying here for a long time, but we will never forget………………….

After forgetting the ending the
President could be seen running

What is an Ocarina?

The ocarina is a wind instrument that is played by blowing through the mouthpiece and positioning your fingers on the holes to play different notes. There have been many ocarina like instruments made throughout history, but the credit goes to a man named Giuseppe Donati. Giuseppe Donati made the first recognized ocarina. It was the first 10 hole ocarina. He named it ocarina after the Italian word for little goose. Sometime later the Italian ocarinas were discovered in Asia and were renovated to make the 12 hole ocarina. Ocarinas are most common in China, Japan, and Korea. *

In 1998 Nintendo released Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a game that helped to popularize the ocarina world wide.

In Ocarina of Time you play as young Link, and use an ocarina to travel through time, and affect the world around you. Ocarinas have continued to make cameos in the other Zelda games. In Majora’s Mask you once again obtain the Ocarina of Time, and use it to help save the world from destruction. In Link’s Awakening you use an Ocarina to awaken the Windfish, by playing a song called the “Ballad of the Windfish”.

Song of Time

Playing the ocarina is fun, and it’s fairly easy to learn. If you are looking for a good site to learn how to play songs on the ocarina you should visit https://tabs-ocarina.com/ it’s a great website if you are a fan of Zelda or other fantasy games, and want to learn how to play songs from them.

Verse of The Week 8/10/22

Eph.

1:5

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy, and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will.” God chose us before He made the world. He had planned for His Son to die in our stead even before He made us. He blesses us with everything we need and gives us the gift of His Holy Spirit. Not only does this verse remind us of His love for us, but it also says: “Even as He chose us before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy, and blameless in Him.” We need to live our lives in a way that is worthy of His sacrifice. We can never repay God for what He did for us, and we can never earn His forgiveness, but we can live our lives in a way that glorifies Him. Ask Him for help and by the power of the Holy Spirit, and He will give you every spiritual blessing you need to be holy and blameless in Him.

Verse of The Week 8/3/22

1 Peter 1:20

“He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you.” This verse is talking about Jesus’s sacrifice for us. The verse before this one says. “Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.” It is saying that before God created the world He had chosen Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. God wasn’t surprised by Adam and Eve sinning. He knew they would turn against Him, and He knew every mistake we would make before He made us. So why did He? Why would God make us when He knew His Son would have to die for us? I find this verse to be a great reminder of how much God loves us. It reminds me that God knows everything we do, every mistake we would make before we make it, and yet He loved us so much that He saw us as worth the sacrifice. Remember to be thankful for the great gift God has given us, and don’t waste it.
